The Ketamine Coaching Code of Ethics

A practice standard for coaches working in and around ketamine.

By Bronwyn Davis, Founder

“As a ketamine coach, I pledge to uphold the seven principles that follow — and to keep them not as policy, but as practice.”

The Principles

  1. 1

    Stay in the Coaching Lane

I pledge to practice coaching — not therapy, and not medicine.

My work can span preparation before, grounded and compassionate presence during, and integration after — in full or in part, as agreed in advance. The medical lane is never mine: I do not assess, diagnose, prescribe, dose, administer, or handle the medicine; that belongs to the medical team and the client. I take on clients who are a fit for coaching — future-focused and seeking growth — and refer those whose needs call for clinical or therapeutic care, without hesitation.

  2. 2

    Do No Harm

I pledge to make the client's safety my first measure of every decision.

I work in partnership with the prescribing clinician or medical team and defer to their judgment; I never practice in isolation from medical care. I stay alert to what lies beyond coaching, and when a client needs more than coaching can give, I bring in medical or therapeutic help without delay.

  3. 3

    Honor the Vulnerable State

I pledge to protect the client as the sole author of their own experience.

I recognize that a person in or after a non-ordinary state is uniquely open and suggestible. I do not steer, implant interpretations, or impose meaning. The insight belongs to the client; my role is to help them carry it forward, not to define it for them. I meet each client with humility and respect for their background, culture, and beliefs, making room for experiences unlike my own.

  4. 4

    Hold the Boundaries

I pledge to keep firm, transparent boundaries around touch, intimacy, and power.

Touch has no place in ketamine coaching unless a client specifically requests it to feel grounded — and even then it stays limited, agreed beforehand, and reconfirmed in the moment. I never engage in sexual contact of any kind. I stay mindful of the heightened power and trust this work places in me, and I never use it to foster dependency or serve my own interests.

  5. 5

    Protect the Container

I pledge to build trust and keep a confidential, non-judgmental space.

I establish the relationship on care and attunement. I treat what surfaces in or after non-ordinary states with particular care. I name the limits of confidentiality plainly and in advance: my duty to act on imminent harm, and any coordination with the prescribing clinician or medical team, which happens only with consent.

  6. 6

    Tell the Truth

I pledge to represent this work honestly.

I secure informed consent specific to what coaching is — and is not. I make no medical or therapeutic claims, promise no outcomes, and stay transparent about fees.

  7. 7

    Remain a Student of Myself

I pledge to ground my coaching in my own inner work, and to treat my growth and self-discovery as lifelong.

I keep consultation and case review as a standing requirement of my practice — not a resource reserved for hard cases, but how I stay honest with myself, built in before I need it. I track my own activation as a safety signal: when a client's story or actions trigger something in me, that is a prompt to seek consultation or initiate a handoff — never something to process on the client.

My Commitment
“I commit to upholding the principles of this Code, to sharing its values with the coaches and colleagues I work beside, and to doing my part to build integrity and ethics into the heart of ketamine coaching. My choices shape not only the client in front of me, but the credibility of our emerging field. So I practice as if safe, ethical, accessible ketamine care depends on it. Because it does.”
